At work, many of us are consigned to using a Windows desktop, for reasons that are beyond our control. Linux fanatics would say, “Change your job”, but well sometimes that is not an option. At the same time, you have that itch to try out a certain se/awk/grep combo or a quick perl script. Here’s something that can scratch you :-)
From the site proclamation:

Linuxzoo or better still ubuntu :-)

I have been trying to make a list of things to try out on a system running ubuntu before jumping off the XP boat (yes - single boot ubuntu).

Yesterday managed to send and receive emails using evolution. My calendar looked ok. Only issue was with GAL - need to f igure which server GAL runs on.

Today - successfully opened a spreadsheet, a word doc and a ppt from myworkshop with openoffice. ppt had animation and embedded video which did’nt work.
Trying to get wifi@work to work.
After that projector & TV out …

foss.in by 2008 that is the goal :-)

This would be trailblazing achievement !!

One thing I am wondering — once you start downloading onto Evolution, would you be able to import the mails back into Outlook, if need be ?

The other thing is that many intranet sites do not handle FFox well. For example, tough to get the Conf Room booking site to work. Or “revise” docs on eLib.
